A Pre-Purchase Examination (PPE) will comprise a 5 -Stage Examination.

 

1. Initial examination in the stable assessing eyes, heart, lungs, mouth, etc.
2. Examination outside stable with horse stood square, trot-up in hand, flexion tests and lungeing on a hard surface.
3. Ridden examination e.g. Walk, trot and canter in circle and straight line plus gallop.
4. Cool down period plus paperwork.
5. Final trot up, turning and backing.

We would also recommend a blood sample for possible future analysis, subject to the vendor’s authorisation.  Also, it is now a requirement that the horse has a Passport.

 

Further more involved tests are available on request, and at extra cost, if required by the purchaser or insurance company but we would not recommend these routinely.  You should discuss this further with your veterinary surgeon if additional tests are required.

 

Facilities required for the examination:

 

• Dark stable
• Area of hard, level ground suitable for examination/trotting in hand
• Area of hard, level ground suitable for lungeing
• Suitable area for riding and more strenuous exercise
• It is advisable for the purchaser to be present at the examination
