birds & exotics

Here at Wendover Heights we are able to provide veterinary care and treatment for the more exotic species in addition to the usual companion animals such as dogs and cats.   Veterinary surgeon, Steve Smith, is RCVS Certified in Zoological Medicine and has a wide range of experience in dealing with exotic pets.  He is a member of many exotics veterinary organisations such as the Association of Avian Veterinarians and British Zoological Veterinary Society and regularly attends and presents lectures on all aspects of exotic animal care.

Most people associate exotics with weird and wonderful species of birds and reptiles.  However, in the context of veterinary care at WHVC we include many different animals as exotics including rabbits, guinea pigs, other small mammals, ferrets, reptiles (snakes, tortoises and lizards), birds (birds of prey, parrots, songbirds), amphibia and all sorts of zoo species.

If you have an unusual pet that you would like seen, even just for a health check and advice, please phone us for an appointment with Steve; many exotic pets hide the signs of illness very well so, unfortunately, it can be that when they actually look sick to you, they could be very ill and needing prompt veterinary care.  Therefore, preventative healthcare is highly recommended for these more fragile animals.

We offer a wide range of services for exotic species which include:
