Purchasing a horse for most
people is a big decision and
investment and we would
recommend that prospective owners
have the horse examined by a Veterinary Surgeon prior to purchase.
Although this Pre-Purchase Examination (PPE) cannot be a guarantee as such, it can
assist you to make an informed decision and may well pick up on factors that maybe
your own evaluation did not uncover - it can be easy to let your heart rule your
head when making the initial evaluation yourself and the input of a qualified Veterinary
Surgeon could prove valuable.
The outcome of a Pre-Purchase Examination will depend on many factors and it is not
a simple case of ‘pass’ or ‘fail’. Things will be considered such as your intended
use of the horse and production for resale and insurance; the resulting evaluation
will take into account whether any conditions identified ‘will or will not be likely
to prejudice the animal’s proposed use by the prospective purchaser’. Basically,
is the horse suitable for the purpose for which you are buying it? Please follow
the link below for further details of the examination.
