This examination is performed during one of your mare’s early seasons and enables
the veterinary surgeon to assess whether she has the potential to become pregnant
and carry and deliver a foal successfully through to term. Essentially, it is an
assessment of her reproductive health.
The Pre-Breeding Examination includes:
- General health check and clinical examination
- Assessment of vulval conformation and cervix
- Vaginal examination
- Clitoral swab for CEM, including lab fees, required by ALL studs
- Blood sample for EVA, including lab fees, required by MOST studs
- Endometrial (uterine)swab, including lab fees - essential for early detection of
uterine infection
- Ultrasound scan of the uterus to assess ovarian function, cyst mapping and early
detection of uterine fluid
