Emergencies

Here's what to do in an emergency

What to do if you have a pet emergency

If you have an emergency with your pet between the hours of 08.30am – 09.00pm they will be seen by members of the WHVC team at our main branch in Halton.

From 9:00pm until 8:30am, we have switched to using a dedicated out of hours provider,  Hampden Veterinary Hospital in Aylesbury, who offer emergency overnight cover. Hampden have a team of on-site night vets and nurses and are located in Anchor Lane, Aylesbury, HP20 1AJ, near to the town centre. Hampden can be contacted on 01296 423666 and for further information, you can visit their website.

We will continue to provide overnight care for any inpatients that are already with us so that they do not have to be moved between practices, unless we feel that it is in the pet’s best interests to be moved for purposes of intensive monitoring.

Members of our team stay on-site overnight to care for any animals that are hospitalised and are checked as needed.

The decision to change the format of our out of hours provision has not been an easy one for us one after providing a 24 hour self-staffed service for decades. Unfortunately, the veterinary world is facing similar challenges to the human medical world and the balance of the numbers of vets joining and leaving the profession has resulted in a shortage of vets nationally. Therefore, in order to retain and recruit a strong team to continue caring for your pets, we have decided that using Hampden’s dedicated overnight facility offers the best solution currently for our clients, their pets and our veterinary team.
